One indicator might be to look at the underside of the bridge and possibly tail piece. Most Japanese guitars will have Japan cast in it. There again that doesn't help if the bridge has been replaced.
I vaguely remember seeing that logo before but for the life of me can't remember if it is one of the originals or a remake.
You might also want to ask our friends at the Westone forums, they may have some insight.

I can't say for certain what it is, but what it is not is Matsumoku. They didn't make SG clones, it's the wrong logo, and they didn't add head stock decoration under the lettering. The Serial number is not correct for Mats either.
The logo doesn't match Italian, or German either, so that leaves, Korean, Chinese or possibly Indonesian?
Hard to tell from the pictures but the build looks good so I tend to think Korean. Chinese Westone knock-offs tended to be poor quality. The serial number also looks more like a Korean reference, but the addition of that "flower" design on the head stock is odd, and Korean builds usually are proud to announce that fact so it's strange there is nothing on the guitar.

Thank you,
maybe it could be a tribute to sg and have a more special series?
indeed, in the catalogs I did not find sg from them.
the person who gave it to me told me that he bought it in the 90s from a pawnshop in Vienna.
at the underside of the bridge is written STC. on the tail piece is nothing written.Crusty wrote:One indicator might be to look at the underside of the bridge and possibly tail piece.

Matsumoku ended business in 1987 and didn't make SG clones.the person who gave it to me told me that he bought it in the 90s from a pawnshop in Vienna.
This is a Japanese part IIRC, so the plot thickens!the underside of the bridge is written STC
Perhaps built by another Japanese factory, or a Korean factory using Japanese parts, or, is this older than it looks and pre-dates the classic Mats era?

I wouldn't be so sure about that... at least in Japan there were some of those.Barry wrote:Matsumoku ended business in 1987 and didn't make SG clones.
