Winter Guitar

Post: # 80355Post AritaElectric »

Need help again. I bought this Winter Guitar... Cannot find anything on-line about it. Made in China, looks a lot like an Ibanez.

Thanks as always.

Moved this as it is not a Matsumoku guitar.

I have a number of Chinese guitars and their origins are difficult to trace. Brands and models have cropped up by the droves with many disappearing not long after. When much of the mid range and budget production moved to Korea dealers could order stock models and have them re-badged same as Japan. When China got into the game it only got worse. I've been able to glean some information through extensive Google searches but nothing concrete. The first of the flood of Chinese guitars were for the most part cheaply made copies. Just like Korea and Japan China has for the most part improved quality over the years. I have several that play better than guitars ten times what I paid for them.

Yours has a somewhat Kramer-ish vibe to it. Two point fulcrum trem is a definite plus. Is that a roller nut with a zero fret? If so that is another plus as the strings won't bind during bends. It looks to be in good shape. How much did you give for it?

I found two LP copies on Reverb and another that looks like a PRS clone.

I checked and they let their domain expire. A post I found on Harmony Central dates back to Jan 2006. Nothing concrete but does offer a date range for them.

Never heard of the brand but it looks to be well made. The shape is rather generic so I don't think that tells us much.
(That red Winter link on Reverb is just gorgeous!)

A couple of blue-sky comments:
• The Reverb model appears to have an updated logo and a 3+3 head stock, so perhaps indicating a change in origin (China?).
• The poster's model strikes me as being older somehow, and the position markers on the edge might indicate an MIK build?

Having a Mats guitar is always a bonus but the bottom line is, if it plays well and you like it that's all that matters regardless of origin. (I have a MIC Epiphone Les Paul Studio which is just fantastic)

Sorry, I missed your other question: Is that a roller nut with a zero fret? Yes it is. Thank you again. Thanks for moving to Un-Identified Labels-Brands.

If the neck is straight and the electronics are in order seems to me like you got a pretty good deal. This one flew under the radar for sure.
